What is Microdermabrasion?

Dayton microdermabrasionMicrodermabrasion is a quick, painless, non-invasive facial treatment performed by an aesthetician to rejuvenate and refresh your skin. Patients often say that it feels like gentle suction when the microdermabrasion wand glides over their skin.

What Does Microdermabrasion Treat?

If you have rough skin, fine lines or dull, uneven skin tone, microdermabrasion can improve your skin. With repeated treatments, it can also increase your skin’s elasticity.

Who Should Avoid Microdermabrasion?

Dr. Wolf recommends that you seek a different treatment if you have any of the following conditions:

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

As the small microdermabrasion hand piece is passed over your skin, tiny crystals are sprayed onto your skin’s surface to gently buff away the outer skin layer. The wand then vacuums away the crystals and dead skin. The treatment isn’t at all painful but, if your face is ticklish, you might laugh a lot! Because your skin interprets this treatment as a mild skin injury, it will rush to replace those lost skin cells with newer skin. It’s a win-win!

What is the Recovery Time from Microdermabrasion?

The first hour or so after your microdermabrasion treatment, your skin might be slightly red and perhaps even a tiny bit swollen. For most Dayton microdermabrasion patients, this disappears within an hour up to two days—those with very fair skin generally have more reaction than those with darker skin. You won’t experience pain afterwards, however, so there’s nothing to worry about there.
